New York Giants' Jalin Hyatt: A Rising Star with a Unique Diet
As the New York Giants strive to solidify their playoff aspirations, second-year wide receiver Jalin Hyatt is emerging as a critical contributor. Standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 185 pounds, Hyatt has dedicated himself to bulking up, understanding the rigors of the NFL season demand a more robust frame.
Hyatt's unique approach to weight gain includes incorporating Uncrustables—those beloved frozen, individually wrapped peanut butter and jelly sandwiches—into his diet. This method speaks to the young athlete's determination and creativity in tackling his physical challenges.
"It's definitely hard for myself (to gain weight). Some guys, it's easier for them to gain weight or gain muscle. For myself, it's harder. I burn a lot of calories quick. I'm just one of those guys that's got to just keep eating," Hyatt shared, highlighting his metabolism's impact on his growth.
Drafted in the third round out of Tennessee, Hyatt has quickly become a pivotal player for the Giants. His talents were on full display with a crucial 58-yard reception in the Giants' narrow three-point victory over the Cardinals in Week 2 of the 2023 season. This play marked the beginning of a promising trajectory for Hyatt in the NFL.
His performance continued to impress in Week 7, when he recorded two catches for 75 yards, contributing significantly to New York's 14-7 triumph over the Commanders. Each week, Hyatt demonstrates his potential and the depth he adds to the Giants' receiving corps.
Perhaps the most notable milestone in Hyatt's young career came in Week 12, when he secured his first 100-yard receiving game in the NFL. His breakout performance was instrumental in the Giants' narrow victory over the Patriots, solidifying his role as a key offensive weapon.
"PB&J's was one of my biggest things, because you want to eat your full meal. You don't want to eat a little bit and drink a protein shake. Then you're not really getting anything. So, for myself, finishing, completing your full meals, and then, an hour later or 30 minutes later, that's when you put in an Uncrustables or a PB&J or a little protein shake," Hyatt explained about his dietary strategy to address his weight gain challenges.
Beyond his physical commitment, Hyatt exhibits a strong mental focus and high expectations for both himself and his team. "For me, I always set high expectations. Just looking at our team, looking at what we got—for goals, I just want a team goal. We have a playoff team. That's what we want to do. That's our focus and we're gonna get there," he remarked.
As the Giants continue their quest for postseason success, Jalin Hyatt's development and contributions will be crucial. His combination of athletic prowess, strategic dietary adjustments, and unwavering commitment to team goals positions him as a rising star in the NFL. The journey is demanding, but with players like Hyatt stepping up, the Giants' future looks promising.
